Selena thinks Tour with Demi would be fun

December 4, 2009

Selena Gomez new TV GUIDE interview. On her volunteerism: Radio Disney is having this contest called ‘Give Back.’ The winner will fly to California and with me, go to the UNICEF office and donate $5,000. Being blessed to have a voice and using it for causes that are important to me and educate kids my age about everything going on outside of either our country or even the next state over, I’m honestly the luckiest girl in the whole world.

Wizards of Waverly Place details: We are on Season 3 right now, so we have a lot more magic. My character, Alex, has a lot of growing to do and she falls in love for the first time. [Sel’s love interest is played by British actor Gregg Sulkin, who stars in Disney Channel UK’s As the Bell Rings.]

Harder to maintain privacy now? Just a little bit, but I think that I can speak for my cast as well, that we obviously haven’t forgotten that they’re the reason why we’re here, so we would never once complain about that.

How is your band going? It’s going really well. It’s my debut album and we’re able to tour it on the weekends. My fans from the show are being really supportive of my music. Would you and BFF Demi ever tour together? That would be awesome. I’m doing my show and she has her show, but that would be fun.

Demi Lovato is Disney’s latest success story

December 4, 2009

Once the Disney Channel gets behind a young multitalent, chart-topping success seldom comes as a surprise. But in the case of Demi Lovato, the music and acting career she’s enjoying was hardly handed to her.

Singing since age 5, Lovato and her sisters needed a skill for the talent portion of the pageants in which they competed at a young age. “I loved to sing, so that’s when I started taking lessons and really practicing,” Lovato explains.

Studying under vocal coach Linda Septien in Dallas, Lovato learned how to write songs and play instruments, but she also used the opportunity to soak up advice on “making it in the music business,” she says.

Discovered during a Disney Channel casting call in Texas, Lovato quickly caught the attention of the company’s music department.

“When I first heard her, I was begging to work with her,” says Steven Vincent, VP of music and soundtracks.

Lovato went on to perform in “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” and release two hit CDs, “Don’t Forget,” and “Here We Go Again,” culminating in a popular concert tour of her own last summer. The star of Disney Channel’s “Sonny With a Chance,” Lovato also co-starred with the Jonases in “Camp Rock” and Selena Gomez in “Princess Protection Program.”

“She’s got unlimited potential. She can sing and she’s funny — it’s rare to find that kind of combination,” Vincent says. “I think she will become a major artist like Pink or Alanis Morissette.”

Impact: The Disney chanteuse’s two CDs debuted at Nos. 1 and 2.

Next: Working on another album; just finished filming “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam”

Causes: Partnered with the Pacer Center in Minnesota to launch teensagainstbullying.org; involved with Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green.
